I'm better than everyone else. My mom says so. She also says that I'm "special"...not sure what to make of that.

The Common Scold blog was nominated via email for the "Best NY Blawger" contest.

Best NY Blawger: Peter Lattman, Wall Street Journal Law blog

Well, I'll nominate Simple Justice
Scott Greenfield, Eric Turkowitz, New York Personal Injury law blog, Andrew Lavoott Bluestone and the New York Attorney Malpractice Blog

Walter Olson-Overlawyered for best New York blawgger.

I'm going to have to second myself.

I'll jump into the mix and mix it up a little by nominating 2 blogs that have not yet been nominated.

I nominate New York Civil Law as the Best New York Law blog and Quizlaw--Dustin, specifically, who, word has it, currently resides in Upstate NY, as the best New York blawger.

Best blawgs: Indignant Indigent and Judicial Reports

Best blawgers: 1. Bridget Crawford --Feminist Law Profs (Pace Law School professor) 2. Ann Althouse--Althouse blog (currently visiting professor at Brooklyn Law School)

Best New York blawger: Paul Finkelman at Balkanization

Melissa Lafsky--Opinionistas for best NY blawgger.

Kinda OT: Dylan Schaffer, a former PD, has written a couple of mysteries that feature a public defender in the bay area. I highly recommend them: Misdemeanor Man and I Right the Wrongs.

Best NY blawg-New York Supreme Court Criminal Term Library (http://www.bloglines.com/blog/PLL )

Best NY blawger-Marty Schwimmer of the Trademark Blog and Between Lawyers.

New York blawger: Caitlin Borgmann -The Reproductive Rights Prof blog.

I nominate Sui Generis and New York Civil Law. I also feel duty-bound to nominate Wait A Second.

Wow. I'm really disappointed.

Is this all the votes that can be mustered? Not very impressive at all. (Readership must be very low.)

Also, I think the sponsor of the contest should have been disqualified from consideration. That would have been the right thing to do. (Would have given this effort the "appearance of impartiality and propriety.") Ms. Black might as well end the survey now and claim all the prizes!

BTW: How objective an endeavor is this, if what I'm seeing are a bunch of people who basically know each other and have mentioned each other in their respective columns in the past?

Winners should be based on such criteria as traffic stats. The more traffic (like unique and repeat visitors) generated over the course of the past year, the more likely you've got a site with a true fan base. That, in turn, would give us a better -- or more objective -- sense of who are truly the "best" blogs or bloggers out there.

This is taking hat-tipping to an absurd level.

Hi Rich,

Thanks for your comments. As explained in my post, this is simply the nomination stage. The voting stage will begin shortly.

And, I'd intended to remove my blog from the running, so it's nice to see that we're on the same page on that one.
