The best hearing ever.

Quizlaw readers:  I'm begging you--all traces of dignity have evaporated with the wind--please vote for our sister blog, Sui Generis, in the 2007 Weblogs Awards.

For the love of God, just do it and I promise I'll shut up about it.

And now, back to our regularly scheduled programming....

********

I came across the video below, and it was pretty  funny.  But what was really funny was the story that it reminded me of from my days as a PD.

This happened to another PD, but it was classic.  It involved a judge that made life difficult for the prosecution, defendants and defense counsel.

One day, after a long docket this judge sentenced some poor schmuck to a year in prison following a misdemeanor probation violation. As the court deputies lead the guy away he threw all caution to the wind and yelled "Judge X, suck my dick!"

The judge was furious and attempted to hold the guy in contempt then and there.  But, the PD from my office, being the adept lawyer that he was, demanded a contempt hearing.

The judge complied and a hearing was held that afternoon.  In an attempt to prove the contempt charges, the ADA put the PD from my office on the stand, since he was one of the only witnesses available.

The ADA, a bit of a smart ass and a decent guy, who disliked the judge as much as anyone, began by asking the PD:  Where were you standing when the defendant yelled "Judge X, suck my dick?"

The PD responded: I was standing next to the defendant when the---incident occurred.

ADA:  And, what did you do immediately after the defendant yelled "Judge X, suck my dick?"

PD:  Um, I turned and looked at my client.

ADA:  And what was your client doing right after he yelled "Judge X, suck my dick?"

PD:  (a bit confused and hesitant) Um, he was standing there after the incident occurred.

ADA:  How did you know it was your client that yelled "Judge X, suck my dick?"

PD:  Um, I heard him?

ADA:  So, are you saying that you heard your client yell "Judge X, suck my dick"?

PD:  (finally catching on) Oh!  Yeah, my client definitely said "Judge X, suck my dick!"

ADA:  Are you sure it wasn't the court deputy who yelled "Judge X, suck my dick"?

(about 15 minutes later)

DA:  What makes you think it was your client and not someone else who said "Judge X, suck my dick'?

PD:  I knew it was my client because I saw his mouth moving and heard the words "Judge X, suck my--"

JUDGE:  (red faced)  Mr. DA!  Are you about done with your questioning at this point?

DA:  Well, judge, I did have a few more questions---

JUDGE:  (barely able to contain his anger) Mr. DA--I think that you're done.  Mr. APD, you may step down. Now!

Like I said.  Classic.
